A veteran of both world wars, The Desert Fox was a talented commander and known for his brilliant use of armor. The Desert Fox was highly respected by both his colleagues and enemies, and was popular among the German people during the war and still remains a popular figure today. Although poorly supplied, The Desert Fox eluded Allied commanders in North Africa and punished the inexperience of American troops.
