About the M48A3 Patton:

The M48A3 Patton was an improved variant of America’s first Main Battle Tank. It was originally developed in the 1950’s as a counter to Soviet tank development, the Patton was intended to replace all other tanks fielded at the time by both the US Army and US Marines. While it retained its key features like its 90mm main gun and four-man crew, the main improvement on the A3 (and later models) was the new turbo-charged diesel engine, giving the Patton a higher torque to weight ratio as well as doing away with highly flammable gasoline.

The M48A3 saw widespread use by both the US Army and the US Marines throughout the Vietnam War. Its heavy armor and firepower was both tactically useful and a moral booster for the American and South Vietnamese forces within close proximity. As the American involvement in the Vietnam War came to a close, the M48A3 was in the process of being replaced in service by the new M60 Main Battle Tanks. Surviving M48A3s in the field were gifted to the South Vietnamese Army, who used them until they were stopped by mechanical failures and a lack of spare parts.

Our M4A3 kit is modeled after a typical M48A3 Patton field by the US Army Armored Cavalry in the Vietnam War. Standard markings are for the 11th Cavalry Regiment, similar to our other recent Vietnam War releases. The kit comes with two custom minifigures, a Perfect Caliber™ BrickArms® M60 machine gun, and lots of equipment stowage items, featuring custom printing throughout. Also included are a replacement set of printed parts with US Marines markings, shark mouth prints for the glacias, and an alternative print for the searchlight. Other model features include working suspension, fully rotating turret with posable main gun, later model commander’s cupola, and two opening hatches.
