About the Sd.Kfz. 6 - WWII German 5 Ton Half Track:

One of Germany’s many versatile half-tracks in the Second World War, the Sd.Kfz 6 prime mover combined the mobility of a wheeled vehicle with the rugged cross-country ability of tracks and the strength and power to transport artillery. Built primarily to tow medium artillery pieces such as the leFH 18, the Sd.Kfz 6 could also carry crew and equipment and still maintain reliable performance through tough terrain and environments. It was not the fastest vehicle, but it was dependable and sturdy, proving invaluable for artillery and support units. It played a behind-the-scenes role that kept the German war machine moving.

In Operation Barbarossa in 1941, the Sd.Kfz 6 proved its worth across the vast and unforgiving landscapes of the Soviet Union. As Germany advanced rapidly, supply lines stretched, and harsh winter started to turn to freezing winter accompanied by dust, deep mud, and snow, the Sd.Kfz 6 was indispensable. It towed artillery when other vehicles could not, and helped maintain the momentum of advance. 

About the 10.5cm leFH 18:

Towed behind the Sd.Kfz 6, the 10.5 cm leFH 18 was Germany’s standard light field howitzer in the early war. Introduced in the 1930s, it had respectable range, accuracy, and punch and proved useful against infantry, fortifications, and light defenses. The leFH 18 could fire various types of ammunition, giving commanders flexibility. With the Sd.Kfz 6, the leFH 18 operated as valuable mobile and responsive artillery. Although conventional, the leFH 18 was reliable and widely used, delivering sustained fire support through the early years of the war.
