About the Schwimmwagen – WWII German Amphibious Vehicle:
The name says it all. The Schwimmwagen, or ‘swimming car,’ was an innovative option for German troops fighting in the Second World War over diverse, inhospitable, and undeveloped terrains. Designed by Porsche and produced by Volkswagen, the Schwimmwagen was the most produced amphibious car in history. Originally based on the Kubelwagen, the Schwimmwagen had a boat-shaped and watertight body and a paddle-propellor mechanism that could be lowered for water travel.
The Schwimmwagen was factory shipped unarmed and unarmored, but its versatility and mobility made it an effective and popular vehicle (our vehicle is field-equipped with a BrickArms® Perfect Caliber MG42). Its top speed of 50 mph on land and 5 mph on the water and its flexibility made the Schwimmwagen ideal for reconnaissance, communication, and command roles. Over 15,000 were built, and the Schwimmwagen served with German forces across Europe.
