Greatly improving on the bolt action Kar-98K, the G43 entered service in October of 1943. Issued mostly as a specialist's weapon, the G43 was meant to match the Russian SVT-38/40 and the American M-1 Garand and Carbines. However, due to its poor performance in combat conditions and limited production, it fell short of its goal, but remains an iconic weapon and popular collectors item to this day.
