About the Opel Blitz - WWII German Light Truck:

As his armies conquered much of Europe, Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have quipped that an army marches on its stomach. The Second World War was no different, as the armies depended on fleets of vehicles to transport food, men, and material around the globe. As the German army mirrored Napoleon’s quest for European domination, it turned to the iconic Opel Blitz to transport food, weapons and ammunition, clothes and medical supplies, and all other materiel that armies need on the move. Introduced in the 1930s, the 3-ton Opel Blitz was reliable, simple, and easy to produce, and by the outbreak of war, thousands were already in service.

The Opel Blitz proved invaluable to Germany’s fast-moving mobile warfare, carrying the materiel on which the tanks and mechanized units depended. The truck served wherever the German army went, useful as a general cargo truck, a radio vehicle, an ambulance, and much more. In the final years of the war, many of the trucks were painted with the ‘Ambush’ camouflage scheme, which used contrasting base colors to blend into wooded terrain, most notably of Western Europe. The Opel Blitz was ubiquitous throughout the war, and symbolized the vital logistical needs of vast armies and global battlefields.
