About the M4A2E8 Sherman 'Fury' – Tank Museum ‘Easy Eight’:

The M4A2E8 Sherman — nicknamed the “Easy Eight” — was arguably the finest evolution of the Allies’ most iconic tank of the Second World War. Gliding across the battlefield more smoothly than its predecessors, due to its advanced Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) system, the Easy Eight featured superior stability and firing accuracy. And beneath its rugged hull growled a powerful twin diesel engine, propelling it forward with steady determination. Notably, the Easy Eight Sherman carried a high-velocity 76 mm gun, allowing the M4A2E8 to finally stand toe-to-toe with formidable German armor, trading blows in the shattered towns and muddy fields of Europe in the final months of the war.

Easy Eights spearheaded the Allied push from Normandy to Germany, leading assaults through France, the Low Countries, and into the heart of the Reich, often forced to engage the heavy German tanks such as Panthers and Tigers in brutal duels. But their improved mobility and gun performance gave Allied armored units the confidence to strike quickly and decisively, and the Easy Eight earned a reputation as a strong and dependable tank.

Arriving in Europe only in the final months of the war, the M4A2E8 nonetheless left an indelible mark on armored warfare history. To their crews, they were more than steel and firepower; they were home and a fortress too, as shown by the engine decks crowded with bag and boxes of supplies and personal effects for the long drive across Europe. Today, one famous Easy Eight rests at The Tank Museum in Bovington.
