About the M113 ACAV- Vietnam War Armored Cavalry APC:
The M113 is a versatile, lightweight amphibious armored personnel carrier developed in the late 1950's. It has been widely used by the US Army and allied countries, serving throughout the Cold War and continuing to soldier on in various forms worldwide.
During the Vietnam War, an armored kit for the M113 was created for use by the US Army's armored cavalry units, this creating the Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle (ACAV). The armored turret for the track commander and gun shields helped protect the crew and riding soldiers fighting in the particular jungle terrain of Southeast Asia. The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, also known as the "Black Horse Regiment," was deployed to Vietnam in 1966 and was one of the first units to use the M113 ACAV in combat. Tactics developed by the 11th Cavalry would prove effective against both insurgent VietCong and regular NVA forces and would be used by follow-on units throughout the war.
Our model depicts a M113 ACAV of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiments with two different livery options: one with the famous "Black Horse" insignia and the other with the general crossed saber logo of the armored cavalry units.
