About the Horch 108 Type 1a  - WWII German Heavy Off-Road Passenger Car:

Often shown transporting the famed Desert Fox, Horch trucks quietly played a far more ubiquitous role on the North African battlefields. In the 1930s, the German military called on the automotive industry to develop a series of standardized light, medium, and heavy trucks. Many auto companies joined the effort, but Horch produced a particularly successful series of reliable trucks, most with 4-wheel drive, that could carry heavy loads. By the end of the war, Horch produced thousands of vehicles in multiple variants. Noted for their sturdiness and high-performance, the Horch variants served ably as passenger vehicles, supply trucks, artillery tractors, and radio and reconnaissance cars.

The Horch 108 Type 1a was a heavy truck with 4-wheel steering that enabled reliable cross-country mobility. Powered by a strong V8 engine, it served primarily as a personnel carrier and light gun tractor, but the adaptable Horch 108 also was employed as an ambulance, anti-aircraft gun platform, and much else. Dependable, rugged, and powerful, these versatile trucks proved particularly useful in the mobile warfare and far-flung battlefields of the desert campaign.
