About the F-8C Crusader™ – Carrier-Based Air Superiority Fighter:
The Northrup Grumman F-8 Crusader™ was a single-seat carrier-based fighter, designed for air superiority and capable of supersonic speeds. Renowned for its speed and agility, the Crusader had distinctive variable-incidence wings, which allowed the pilot to adjust the angle of the wings in order to provide high angles of attack or landing while keeping the fuselage relatively level. Developed by the aircraft manufacturing company Vought in the 1950s, the F-8 made its operational debut flying reconnaissance flights over Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Crusader carried various bombs, rockets, and air-to-air missiles. However, its primary weapons were two powerful 20mm cannons, earning the F-8 the nickname, “The Last of the Gunfighters.”
