About the M37B1 Gun Truck:

Tough and dependable, the Dodge M37 was developed in the 1950s as the successor of the famous Second World War WC-series weapons carriers. The rugged 3/4 -ton truck featured four-wheel drive and was built to survive harsh terrain, heavy loads, and brutal combat. Powered by a reliable six-cylinder engine and boasting exceptional off-road capability, the truck quickly earned a reputation for durability in Korea and Vietnam.

Debuting in the late 1950s, the M37B1 variant served in the Vietnam War as far more than a simple cargo vehicle. To counter the enemy forces ambushing American convoys moving ammunition, fuel, and troops through jungle roads, U.S. troops converted ordinary trucks into gun trucks. The small, fast, and maneuverable M37B1 proved ideal for this role.

Crews added steel armor plates, sandbags, radio gear, and mounted weapons such as M60 or heavy .50-cal machine guns. Racing around convoys during ambushes, they poured suppressing fire into enemy positions. The gun trucks became legendary, with many sporting colorful names and painted artwork, and they remain an icon of Vietnam War ingenuity, courage, and improvisation.
