About the DAK Motorcycle Messenger - WWII German Reconnaissance Vehicle:

In the North African Campaign of the Second World War, fought along the long stretch of coastal road and across the seemingly endless desert, motorcycle messengers played a vital but overlooked role. Across the expansive battlefield, communication was critical. Tanks and aircraft and mobile strikes dominated the headlines, but the coordination of these fast-moving operations required the less flashy contributions of effective communications systems. Radio equipment was not always available or reliable, and motorcycle dispatch riders stepped into the gap and became essential links between headquarters, armored units, artillery batteries, and supply columns. 

Astride BMW R75s or Zundapp KS750s, DAK messengers carried orders, maps, reports, and updates across the battlefield and along the coast. Often traveling alone, they battled harsh desert conditions, navigated featureless terrain, pushed through sand, and braved the heat and threat of enemy patrols. With speed and courage, motorcycle messengers rode hard to avoid delays that could disrupt attacks or leave units unaware of battlefield conditions. These riders were a crucial part of the fast-moving operations of the desert war. They were an important piece of the command network that kept armies functioning, delivering information swiftly and reliably to influence the outcome of the battle.
