About the CCKW - WWII US 2 1/2 Ton Cargo Truck:

The Second World War was a war of logistics, requiring innumerable tons of food, ammunition and war material to be transported around the globe. Battles hinged on the supplies that could reach the front. Against this backdrop, the GMC CCKW proved to be indispensable to the Allied war machine. Colloquially called the “Deuce and a Half” for its 2.5 ton cargo rating, the GMC CCKW was introduced in 1941 and engineered to deliver reliable, all-terrain mobility at a time when the Allied war effort depended heavily on efficient supply distribution. Its rugged construction, dependable engine, and adaptable body configurations made it a central component of Allied transportation operations.

After the breakout from Normandy, the rapid pace of the Allied advance placed enormous pressure on supply chains. The CCKW became the backbone of the Red Ball Express, the high-priority truck route tasked with keeping frontline units supplied with fuel, ammunition, rations, and spare parts. Operating around the clock, often under hazardous conditions and with minimal rest, CCKW convoys ensured that frontline units maintained their momentum across France and into Germany. Also serving as a platform for fuel tankers, medical evacuation vehicles, mobile workshops, and communications units, the CCKW was versatile and adaptable, and it earned a reputation for steadfast dependability. The GMC CCKW was a logistical cornerstone of the Allied campaign in Europe.
