The original M7 Priest mounted a standard 105mm howitzer on the lower hull and chassis of the M3 tank, while the later M7B1 used the more up to date M4A3 Sherman Tank Hull. The secondary armament consisted of a M2 machine gun mounted on a pulpit-like construction (thus the nickname Priest was inspired).
