Loading... Please wait...The Sherman tank was one of the most widely produced Allied tanks during World War II. In an effort to reach production demands, several different hull and engine combinations were used. The M4A4 variant was based around the Chrysler Multibank Engine, which linked five six-cylinder automobile engines to a single drive shaft. Since the US Army settled on the M4A1 and M4A3 variants, most of the 7000+ M4A4s were destined for export via the Lend Lease program. In Western Europe these tanks equipped units of the Free French, Polish, and British armored formations. In Britain the M4A4 was designated the Sherman V and many were upgraded with the powerful 17-pounder gun, becoming the ShermanVc, better known as the Firefly.
